Changing colors in a Single Crochet stitch (Step by Step Photo Instructions)

Step 1: Start the last stitch in your design pattern before the color change is indicated in the old wonder wool color. Single crochet like you normally do and stop when you have performed the yarn over. Now you will have 2 loops on the hook as shown in the picture. |

Step 2: Take the second color and and yarn over the hook needle making sure the tail end of the new wonder wool color is on the side of the hook closer to you. Leave enough tail of the wonder wool (approx. 6 inch) which you can weave in later. Pull the new color wonder wool on the hook through both the old color wonder wool loops on the hook so that you are finally left with only one new color loop on the hook. |

Step3: Pull the new color through the stitch to complete it. |

Step4: That’s it! Your color change is complete! |
Once you have successfully added the new color, you will be left with a two color working ends of the wonder wool and one tail end in new color. So What to do with the Yarn tails?
You can crochet over your yarn tails, holding them to the back of your design and hiding them in your stitches as you crochet over them. Here is how you do it.
- Insert the hook under the top loops of the next stitch, plus old color working end of wonder wool and new colors tail end.
- Crochet the stitch written in the pattern like normal, using new color’s working end of the wonder wool. Every time you’re supposed to yarn over and pull the wool through a stitch to draw up a loop, remember to pull the working end of the wonder wool under any unused wool and through the stitch.
- Continue crocheting like this for at least few stitches. At this stage you can cut the old color working end of the wonder wool as it is now secured in place. Now you can continue working with new color working end of the wonder wool.
To minimize the chance of the unused color peeking out, hold the unused color’s working end of the wonder wool on the inside of the piece.
How Do I Add a New Wonder Wool ball Instead of a Color?
You would add a new ball of wonder wool to your project the same way that you would add different colors to your project. Work your last stitch in the current color up to the last yarn over of the stitch and then yarn over with the new wonder wool and complete the stitch with a new wonder wool ball.
